Mayhem in the Midlands 2007
Anyone who thinks Midwesterners, specifically Nebraskans, don’t know how to throw a good convention, haven’t been to Mayhem. A jewel in Omaha’s crown.
A few facts:
This was the 8th annual affair
Margaret Maron was the guest of honor
Nancy Pickard played Toast Master
This was the first time at a new hotel, Embassy Suites
Twenty-four panels spread over two days and three tracks
More than 200 attendees, just over 50 authors
A welcome get-together Thursday evening, a mystery dinner and lots of opportunity to intersect with friends and significant others in the mystery community.
This is a well-organized, well-run conference. It was held in an outstanding facility with a really pleasant and cooperative staff. The food was good too.
I want to specifically mention and offer personal thanks to the committee: Judi B, Tony B, Carol C, Evonne E, Sally F, Julie G, Donna G, Lori H, Mary Lu, L, Sharon L, Cathy L, Stu L, Cathy N, Jo P, Sandy R, Jim R, Jane S, Carol S, Maggie T-F, Evelyn, and the Library Director Rivka who in so many ways helps to make this a great event for authors and for fans.
Many thanks also to the authors and fans who do so much to make this an outstanding convention, and to the Lincoln City Library, Omaha chapter of Sisters in Crime and Rivka Sass, Omaha Public Library.
Now as to the pictures: if you don’t like yours, don’t bother to email me: I’m not gonna remove it. I will, however, happily read compliments and correct mistakes.
