Spring 2011

It was time to make a change. We've been producing a newsletter for nearly ten years and wanted to continue to do so, and yet the cost of printing and postage was becoming prohibitive. Thus, the MCW E-Newsletter was born. Since you will view this either in your mailbox or in your web browser, we're adding something new: links to articles about publishing, mysteries, books, conferences, and authors we think you might find interesting. Do let us know what you think. We're just an email away!
Notes & News from Kent
It's been a great year so far. Vermilion Drift, which hit the New York Times bestseller list last fall, continues to be satisfying to me in so many ways. Most recently, it was nominated for the both Minnesota Book Award and the Northeast Minnesota Book Award. In gala ceremonies (they're always gala!) to be held between now and mid-May, the winners will be announced, so keep your fingers crossed.
I've finished the next book in the Cork O'Connor series, one I think is pretty good. It's called Northwest Angle, and this is what Charlaine Harris, the NYT #1 bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series has to say about it: "William Kent Krueger can't write a bad book. Northwest Angle is one of his best. A complex crime novel that contains meditations on the difficulties of loving and the paths we take to reach God, this Cork O'Connor novel has everything you want in a great read: depth, action, and credibility." Isn't she wonderful! The book will be released August 30.
Also, I've signed a new contract with Atria Books, my publisher, which includes two new Cork O'Connor novels, and a stand alone. The stand alone is finished. It's titled Ordinary Grace and is, in my humble opinion, the best thing I've ever written. Check out my website for more information about the book and the publishing forecast.
Finally, winter has fled Minnesota. To paraphrase e.e. cummings, all the world here is mudlucious and puddlewonderful. So I'm wishing everyone a spring as glorious as the one we've just begun to experience.

Notes & News from Ellen
Hi, all! This has been a busy winter/spring. I turned in the next Jane Lawless mystery to my editor in New York in mid-January. The Lost Women of Lost Lake will be published in the fall of 2011. Also, I just signed another contract with St. Martin's/Minotaur to write two more books in the series. This is a tough publishing market, perhaps the toughest ever, and to stay afloat is no easy trick. Thanks so to all of you for buying the books, writing reviews, and generally spreading the word.
My latest mystery, The Cruel Ever After, was recently nominated for this year's Lambda Literary Award. This year, the foundation is honoring two amazing talents: Val McDermid and Edward Albee. For more information on how to get tickets, check out the Lambda Literary Foundation website.
In January, eight of my older books, in both the Jane Lawless and the Sophie Greenway series, were made available as ebooks. With a few exceptions, all of my twenty-six backlist titles are now available.
Big thanks to Bella Books in Florida for re-issuing many of the out-of-print Jane Lawless titles in trade paperback and ebooks. The newest, Hunting the Witch, was published in early February. Look for The Merchant of Venus from Bella this fall.
Happy Springtime to everyone!
Ellen

Randomnesses:
I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
I've recently become a twig on Amazon's network "vine" of book reviewers. But I still also present
crime fiction reviews to my personal network of friendly bloggers, and other sites.
As you can readily see from my website, I've moved into e-publishing in a small way with some short
stories and two novels. Smashwords has two novels and some shorts. Kindle too.
A new detective novel and a new academic novel are in the works and should be ready to see the light
of day before Christmas. Traveling with MCW is still fun and energizing.
